Final Project: Game Audio

LECTURES

Week 14
Create audio list and elaborate on 5 of the more creative audio processes since all sounds must be created from scratch. Avoid using music in the final project; avoid creating sound effects using voice.

INSTRUCTIONS

Final Project: Game Audio

We are tasked to create sound effects and ambient sounds to dub over one of the five muted gameplay videos given to us. Of the five 2D platformer games available to choose from, I chose the one-minute video of Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight is the only game that I recognised and had watched gameplay of before.

Planning

I found out the muted Hollow Knight gameplay was from a time when the game was in development in this article. From there, I pieced together where to reference the location and enemies in the game from the following videos to get a sense of the sound effects used in the original game.

No commentary gameplay in the same area as the original clip

Gameplay featuring charged lumaflys as seen in the original clip

The next step was to watch the muted game clip and create an audio storyboard and audio list by spotting the cues in the clip. Creating the storyboard first helped in making sure we don't miss out on any of the audio required in the list.

Sound Recording

I worked together with a couple of my friends to bring props and share the audio assets we managed to record. We took up the offer to use the recording studio in order to get minimal background noise and ease our future editing process. It was also a learning experience on using the Pro Tools software and on the process of recording in a professional recording studio.

All of the props I used for the audio assets were common household objects. Before going to the studio, we practiced on a call how we might use
